We would like to take you behind the scenes of the ever-changing site of Tour & Taxis…
We start at the Depot Royal where, by means of a scale-model, we get to know the enormous site, its history and functions over the course of time. We also get an insight into new developments: which projects have already been realised and what is still in the pipeline?
We visit the roof terrace of the Royal Depot and situate ourselves in the surrounding area. We discover the vaulted cellars of the Sheds, which even houses an oyster mushroom farm.
And we discover the newly restored monumental and breathtaking Gare Maritime: a city in the city where it never rains. The gigantic halls are 175 metres deep and rest on slender cast-iron pillars with Art Nouveau elements. The station, built between 1902 and 1908, was at the time the largest goods station in Europe. Architect Jan De Moffarts (Altstadt) renovated this building together with Bureau Bouwtechniek and Neutelings Riedijk Architects, known for the MAS in Antwerp, added new elements that fit in wonderfully. To conclude the tour, we will visit one of these modules that is used as office space.
After your visit, enjoy the covered summer terrace or have a drink and a meal at the Gare Maritime…whatever the weather!
